It was not by chance that Jean became an artist, as she is the descendent of a long line of creative artists and craftsmen.

Her Davidson forebears worked in clay since before they came from the Highlands of Scotland in the mid-1700’s. Jean’s great-great grandfather was the noted, and highly collectible Georgia folk potter, Abraham Burdine Davidson. Her father was an architect.

The works of the Davidson folk-potters are featured in such publications as "Alabama Folk Pottery" by Joey Brackner, and "Brothers In Clay", The Story Of Georgia Folk Pottery, by Dr. John Burrison of Georgia State University.

Jean’s art education began at the University of South Florida where she first became interested in painting and stained glass.

She went on to 3 years at Tampa Technical Institute, where she developed skills in drawing, perspective, color mixing, and design principles.

This core training was followed by 2 years at The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, where upon graduation she was presented with The Special Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, and Creative Performance.

Jean later studied with Mae Jean Burch, of Jacksonville, Florida, who learned her craft under renowned portrait artist, Daniel Greene, and in Florence, Italy, at the Charles H. Cecil Studios

While working with Mae Jean, Jean expanded her expertise by learning the Sight-Size method of portraiture, and the Rembrandt Lighting Techniques used by the Old Masters.

Jean’s aim with portraiture is to catch the true personality of her subject, as well as the accurate skin, eye, and hair coloring. With this in mind she likes to arrange, when possible, at least two live painting sessions with her subject, in addition to relying on photographs.

In her murals Jean glories in using the vibrant, rich jewel tones found in nature, that she combines with an exhilarating effect that expands and uplifts the spirit of the viewer
